In a significant milestone for Bangladesh’s automotive industry, Proton Holdings, in collaboration with Rancon, has introduced the Proton X90 hybrid vehicle to the Bangladeshi market. This launch not only showcases Proton’s latest hybrid model but also signals the company’s broader ambitions to start assembling vehicles locally by late 2024. The move aligns with Bangladesh’s efforts to foster local manufacturing, providing high-quality, eco-friendly vehicles at more affordable prices.
The Proton X90
The Proton X90, designed with cutting-edge technology, is powered by a 48V mild hybrid system paired with a 1.5L turbocharged engine developed alongside Volvo. The car is available in two configurations to appeal to diverse consumer needs: the 6-seater Flagship variant priced at Taka 49.90 lakh and the 7-seater Premium variant at Taka 45.90 lakh. These variants will be available at Rancon showrooms in Dhaka and Chattogram, offering Bangladeshi drivers a modern, hybrid option within the country’s expanding automobile market.
Dr. Li Chunrong
At the launch event, Proton’s CEO, Dr. Li Chunrong, underscored Rancon’s strategic importance in Proton’s entry into Bangladesh. He highlighted Rancon’s efforts in building a comprehensive sales and after-sales network, alongside a planned local production facility for Proton vehicles. Dr. Chunrong shared Proton’s vision to establish a strong foothold in Bangladesh’s automotive market, bringing a line of models tailored to the needs of local consumers. The collaboration aims to bolster Bangladesh’s automotive sector, combining advanced vehicle technology with local manufacturing capacity.
Romo Rouf Chowdhury
Romo Rouf Chowdhury, the Group Managing Director of Rancon Holdings Limited, announced a major investment of USD 100 million in Rancon’s industrial park to support this endeavor. This investment is expected to drive the start of Proton vehicle assembly in Bangladesh by late 2024. Local production should lower the costs of Proton vehicles, making them more accessible for Bangladeshi consumers and creating new economic opportunities within the country. Rancon’s investment could also attract further interest from global car manufacturers, strengthening Bangladesh’s position in the global automotive market.
Rancon has reinforced its commitment to customer satisfaction by including a comprehensive service package for Proton X90 buyers. The package covers a five-year warranty or up to 150,000 km (whichever comes first), along with six complimentary after-sales service sessions. Moreover, authorized service centers with genuine spare parts will be available in both Dhaka and Chattogram, providing ongoing support and reliability for Proton customers.
Rancon and Proton
The collaboration between Rancon and Proton not only introduces a sophisticated hybrid vehicle to Bangladesh but also represents a commitment to building local production capabilities. As Proton begins local assembly, both companies are poised to play a transformative role in Bangladesh’s automotive industry by bringing advanced technology, sustainable manufacturing, and high-quality vehicles within reach of local drivers.
